Great news! Since 1st september 2025 all lines are now at 1.60€ per journey!
Most buses require payment in cash. If you have not already taken out money, cash machines can be found at Place des Arts in Thonon, less than 3 minutes walk from the station. There are two cash points: Crédit Lyonnais & Société Générale. Or book online with Altibus.
Finding your bus
Buses for Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets & Saint Jean d’Aulps look like this, they are the Y91. They will have their bus number on the front and their final destination should be shown.
To check with the driver you can ask “Vous allez à Morzine?” Oui = yes / Non = no. Most drivers do not speak much English but will try to ensure you understand!

Useful facilities
Toilets are available in the SNCF station, on the platform towards Geneva.
Two cash machines can be found at Place des Arts at Crédit Lyonnais & Société Générale.
Eating in Thonon
A pizzeria opposite the station is open for lunch and dinner : Il Vesuvio
A CocciMarket (food shop) is just behind Il Vesuvio for purchasing snacks and drinks.
Many other options are available in the town.
Sites to visit in Thonon
A 10-minute walk will take you to the Belvedere with its view of Lake Geneva and Switzerland: Parc du Belvédère
From here you can also take the funicular railway down to the lake and the port where there are numerous restaurants and a nice lakefront walk.
A 7-minute walk will take you to the 14th-century St-Hippolyte church: Église Saint-Hippolyte de Thonon-les-Bains

If you are on your return journey and need to buy a train ticket, you can easily do this online, or you can use the machine or ticket office in the station.

How to get to St-Jean d’Aulps, Montriond and Morzine
Use the bus n° Y91
Journey length: around 50 minutes
Cost €1,60
The timetable can be found here.
The line Y91 can go either to Avoriaz or Morzine or Les Gets. Check the destination with the driver.
In both summer and winter season there are usually 9 buses per day on weekdays, 7 on a Saturday and 3 on a Sunday. Some buses don’t circulate during French school holidays, check the timetable carefully for info. All scheduled services run, but around half are running 5-10 minutes late by the end of the route.
Timetable publication dates: Please be aware these are often published very late, currently they are published in mid December for the winter season (late December to April).
Ticket reservation : https://booking.altibus.com/Reservation , Visa/Mastercard payment in € online. Please note: only 2 of the 7 daily buses are available online.
Tickets without reservation (the recommended option): cash payment in € only, made on the bus. Please be aware there is an extra charge for suitcases and skis in the storage space. There is always space available on these buses.
Two cash machines can be found at Place des Arts at Crédit Lyonnais & Société Générale.
Please be aware most drivers do not speak English, and anticipate that buses may arrive at the destination with a little delay. Ensure you leave plenty of time in case there are delays.
Stops at the final destination
For St Jean d’Aulps there is a stop outside the Tourist Office called “St Jean d’Aulps chef lieu” : Office de Tourisme de la Vallée D’aulps
For Montriond the stop is at the roundabout below Montriond village, it is called “Pont de Plagnette”: Parking Montriond Roundabout (AlpyBus pick up)
There are 2 stops in Morzine :

And the final stop “Morzine gare routière” (bus station) near the Mairie and Carrefour supermarket : Morzine Bus Terminal

Alternative route with one change in Morzine
Bus Y91 to Morzine, then the Balad’Aulps Line 2 (BAB2) from Morzine to Les Gets. There are 7 BAB2 buses per day, every day in season.
Take the Y91 to the main bus station in Morzine, Morzine gare routière, to take the BAB2 bus from the same stop: Morzine Bus Terminal.

In Les Gets there is only one stop: Les Gets Bus Terminal

How to get to Avoriaz
Use the bus n°Y91
Journey length: around 1 hour 30 minutes
Cost €1,60
In summer and winter season there are no direct buses on weekdays, 5 direct buses on Saturdays and 3 direct buses on Sundays. Please note that the Y91 bus to Avoriaz is not the same as the Y91 bus to Morzine. Ask the driver to confirm the destination.

Avoriaz is the final stop on the direct Y91 bus and it will drop you are the entry to resort : Transport station Avoriaz
Alternative route with one change in Morzine
Take the bus Y91 to Morzine, then the free ski bus on line A to the téléphérique des Prodains. You will need to walk 50 meters from the main bus station in Morzine to the Mairie bus stop. On arrival at les Prodains you can buy a ticket for the téléphérique to Avoriaz.
Free local bus service timetables can be found here The line A runs around every 10-15 minutes every day in winter season time, with a reduced service in the evenings, and in the summer season.
There are 2 stops in Morzine to note :
You need to get off the bus from Thonon at Morzine gare routière (bus station) near the Mairie and Carrefour supermarket : Morzine Bus Terminal
A toilet and waiting room are available at the Morzine bus station
You then need to take the bus for les Prodains at Morzine Mairie (the A bus) which leaves from the stop opposite the church : Parking Place de l’Eglise
There are 2 stops in Avoriaz:
Morzine téléphérique des Prodains (for the A bus) : Parking des Prodains.
A toilet is available at the base and top of the Prodains cable car.
Tickets for the Avoriaz cable car can be purchased at the cable car station from the ticket machines.
Using a taxi
You can also take a taxi from Thonon to your resort. The taxi rank is on your left as you walk out of the main entrance. However, there are not always taxis waiting. You can prebook this service with resort taxi drivers so one will be waiting when you arrive.
