Recycling protocols vary widely from country to country, and even region to region. Often, as we’re used to our own sorting systems from home, we may place items in the wrong bins, contaminating the batch. Here is a local guide to ensure you’re sorting your recyclables appropriately on your holiday to Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz.
WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED?
PLASTICS & PAPERS
– All plastic bottles, cans, jars (water, shampoo and oil bottles and flasks, films, yoghurt and cream pots, polystyrene trays, crisp packets, plastic films, etc.)
– All other plastic packaging (film, crisp packets, yogurt containers, plastic bags)
– All food bricks and all cardboard packaging (egg cartons, pizza boxes, burger boxes, paper/cardboard takeout boxes) even if stained with food as long as no food is left
– All papers (envelopes, newspapers, magazines, catalogues, sheets, advertisements, books)
– Boxes and overpackaging (but not large cardboard boxes such as moving boxes, boxes for household appliances or furniture), cartons of milk, fruit juice, soup, crème fraîche, etc.
METALS
– All metal packaging (ex: cans, beverage cans, syrup cans, aerosols that do not contain hazardous products, aluminum trays)
– Small metal packaging like beer bottle lids, coffee pods, metal lids
– Oily cans (ex: sardines) can be placed even if there are traces of oil, as long as there is no actual food
GLASS (thrown away without lids or caps)
– Glass jars (or use them as storage containers for dried goods which you can buy at La Vie Claire, Carrefour and Casino supermarkets)
– Bottles
– Flasks, vials, pots
WHAT CANNOT BE RECYCLED?
COMMON RECYCLING MISTAKES:
– Paper towels
– Toilet paper
– Napkins/tissues
– Rolls of tape
– Dishes, mirrors, stoneware, light bulbs, caps & lids on glass bottles

It’s important to ensure that only the right things go into each bin, otherwise we risk contaminating the entire collection batch.
